Addis Insight
In just a couple of years, Chapa has become known nationwide for its speed, innovation, and frictionless digital payment infrastructure, an engine powering some of Ethiopia’s most influential institutions. From enabling smooth, secure, and instant digital payments for Ethiopian Airlines ticket purchases to becoming the primary digital payment method for platforms such as Ethiopia’s Digital National ID, the national E-Visa service, and other major public and private systems, Chapa has played a pivotal role in making these essential services faster, more reliable, and more accessible to millions.
That impact has not gone unnoticed. Having recently expanded into Ethiopia’s digital health landscape, Chapa was recognized by the Federal Ministry of Health for its contribution to advancing national digital health systems. During the Digital Health Exhibition held on November 10–11, 2025, the Ministry awarded Chapa a Certificate of Appreciation, acknowledging its role in powering key systems and accelerating the country’s digital health agenda. As Ethiopia moves deeper into its digital transformation, Chapa is enabling instant, secure, paperless payments across leading hospitals and pharmacies. Every day, the company expands its reach, working faster and stronger to serve citizens at a national scale. With every transaction, Chapa continues to live up to its mission: Connecting Ethiopia to the Global Economy.
Teninete and Chapa : Ethiopia’s All-in-One Health Service App
Teninete, backed by Chapa’s payment gateway, is Ethiopia’s first national Health SuperApp. Initiated by the FDRE Prime Minister’s Office and powered by the Ministry of Health, Teninete brings essential health services into one digital channel, and Chapa makes those services instantly payable, securely and reliably.Through one app, citizens can now:
● Book hospital appointments● Order medicines● Reach doctors● Request ambulances
Chapa sits at the core of every transaction in this journey, enabling instant, secure, and traceable digital payments. For institutions, that means less cash handling, fewer queues, and cleaner reconciliation. For citizens, it means the service is not just digital, it works end to end.
A Connected Payment Network for Hospitals and Pharmacies
Beyond Teninete, Chapa is building a nationwide digital payment network across the health sector.Major hospitals such as St. Peter Hospital, St. Paul Hospital, and Adama General Hospital are already live, using Chapa to streamline billing, reduce paperwork, and speed up patient flow across departments.Pharmacies are joining that network too. Kenema Pharmacy Group and multiple private pharmacies across Ethiopia are now integrating with Chapa, gaining:
● Centralized oversight across branches● Faster, cleaner billing● Clearer, more auditable transaction histories
For healthcare leaders, Chapa is more than a payment solution, it is becoming the core national digital infrastructure.
Supporting the Ministry’s Digital Agenda
Chapa also underpins key Ministry of Health systems such as the Lebego Ambulance Dispatching System and the 952 Hotline Call Center, services where downtime is not an option. Fast, dependable payments and data flows are critical in these environments, and Chapa’s infrastructure is built for that standard.By strengthening these national systems and enabling digital payments at scale, Chapa is directly aligned with the Digital Ethiopia 2025 agenda. For government institutions and large enterprises, the message is clear:
● Chapa is proven at scale.● Chapa is trusted by national systems.● Chapa is ready to integrate and operate as a critical infrastructure.
As more institutions modernize their services, Chapa stands out as a reliable, battle-tested partner for those who need payment systems that are secure, compliant, and built to grow with Ethiopia’s digital economy.
